In summer 2013, Megan co-led a three week study abroad program in Dubai, UAE. Along with colleague Dr. John King, the instructors taught ETSU's Advertising/Public Relations' capstone course, Practices, in one of the most advanced countries in the world. Nine students embarked on the experience, learning cultural norms, government regulations of advertising in the Middle East, social media usage among the population, advertising and public relations trends in varying industries (healthcare, travel, realty and retail), and how to create a strategic social media campaign.
The students created a social media campaign for Astro Complex, a living/retail complex in construction in Saudi Arabia. Astro Complex is a brand of NASA-affiliated company, the Space Investment Company. The social media campaign addressed two main goals: increase awareness of Astro Complex and build social media followers.
The result: Be the Star!

What's a study abroad program without regional exploration? Instructors and students participated in a desert safari, complete with four-wheeling, camels, and a traditional dinner, boarded a dhow boat for a dinner cruise, "climbed" the tallest building in the world, The Burj Khalifa, visited Palm Island and Atlantis, enjoyed the sand and water of Jumeirah Beach, traveled to Abu Dhabi, and even dined at the client's luxurious home.
